How should PTFE thread seal tape be applied to industrial threaded fittings?

Clean the male threads before installation and remove dirt, oil or old sealing material. Apply the PTFE tape in the same direction that the fitting will be tightened, keeping the tape flat and evenly tensioned around the threads. Avoid covering the first thread where possible to help prevent loose tape from entering the system. The number of wraps should be adjusted according to the tape specification, thread size and fitting requirements.
